We use a process that comprehensively assesses the multiple areas of an individual's life before moving forward with clinical planning and treatment.

We are well aware that the children, adolescents, adults, and families we serve present with behavioral and emotional health needs that are multifaceted and complex. That is why Amethyst uses a process of comprehensively assessing the multiple areas of an individual’s life before moving forward with clinical planning and treatment. This process is known as the assessment phase of treatment, an intensive clinical and functional face-to-face evaluation of an individual’s present mental health, developmental, and/or substance abuse condition.

The Clinical Assessment identifies:

  • The emotional and behavioral health challenges clients are facing and the areas of life where they are having difficulty (family, school, work, community, physical health, etc).
  • The history of emotional or behavioral concerns and any prior treatments that have been attempted
  • A client’s natural strengths and available support for dealing with challenges and crises.

The Clinical Assessment results in:

  • A written report of the clinical basis for services and supports needed
  • A diagnosis of the signs and symptoms present
  • The specific treatment or services options needed to address the presenting problem.

Each individual’s assessment is an ongoing process. After treatment begins, clients are continually assessed to ensure that their treatment plan continues to meet their needs. Adjustments to treatment may be made as the child’s and family’s needs change and to support them as they move forward.
